What was he thinking? Star Crash is an embarrassing assignment whose score has two sides. The first is a quasi-disco score that sounds like second hand Game Of Death. It has a pulse but is cheesy and hackneyed. The second, thankfully longer side, leans more towards Moonraker. There are some pleasures in this side of the score, for example a rolling theme for piano and strings that evokes You Only Live Twice’s Capsule In Space, lyrical strings that open into a flourish of harps and horns, and a mildly entertaining chase theme. The love theme for Stella Starr is a bore, however, as is the Emporer’s theme.
