Jagged Edge

Rating: 2

Jagged Edge is a claustrophobic thriller score that consists of a seductively ambiguous theme supplemented by formless mood music for synthesizer. The theme is pure genius. A synthesized mood set to a delicate piano melody countered by a tantalisingly arced flute counter. Inventive. Brilliant. Okay, it’s no show tune, but film music fans will appreciate its purity of simplicity yet its expressive cinematic movement.

The synthesized mood music is an interesting experiment for Barry. It doesn’t leap off album as grabbing music. Indeed, it isn’t grabbing music. Some will find it a bore. There is a pleasing, passive ambience to it, however. Not an expressive pleasure, to be fair. This is one of Barry’s less musical scores, but the mood is effective.
